If you are thinking of revamping a little girl’s bedroom, there are plenty of great ideas out there for you to try which won’t break the bank. Whether you are working with a large or small space you can create a dream bedroom for your little princess.
A fresh coat of paint
A lick of paint can freshen up a room no end, particularly if you are considering trying to introduce a girly theme to an otherwise plain room. A coat of cool or pastel coloured paint can even create the illusion of more space in a small room. To add a bit of magic you could position some fairy lights around the room (think around the headboard or across the top of a bookshelf!).
Stencilling
Stencilling is a really fun and easy way to bring a little life to an otherwise blank wall. You can pick these up from most haberdashery stores and DIY shops. It’s better to use a spray paint to create a more even design, and to achieve the depth of colour you are looking for – just make sure it is completely aired and dried before your child sleeps in the room. Think hearts, flowers or even snowflakes and create a beautiful winter wonderland for your little lady.
Mod Podging
Decoupaging (or Mod Podging as it’s known in the US) is something that has become really fashionable in the last few years and it’s so easy to do. You can buy the glue online or in art and crafts stores, then simply select an old piece of furniture to give a new lease of life. You have to apply a base coat, leave it to dry then apply your design. Magazine cut outs, printed pictures, fabric or even pretty wrapping paper, can be used to cover the item, then simply cut it to size and cover with the Mod Podge adhesive. Leave it dry before applying a second coat, and voila!
Small touches
It’s the little things that can make a huge difference and shopping for a few low priced but pretty items can be a nice opportunity to bond with your girl. Pick out a few cushions, a new lampshade or some cute figurines – they will reflect her character and add colour to any room. You might even want to look at rugs, bean bags throws.
If you have more time to plan your re-design, consider create a mood board with your little girl, and ask her to collect images and cut outs from her favourite movies, books and fairy tale ideas then stick them into a scrap book. It’s a great way to start planning (especially if you are on a budget).
