Have you always wanted to be one of those women who look effortlessly put together? The kind of women who always seem to know just what to wear to every occasion? And the kind of women who get compliments on their shoes, handbags, and other accessories?

If you’ve always been hesitant when it comes to fashion, you’re not alone. So many of us fall back on the old basics or assume that buying trendy pieces from Forever 21 and H&M will keep us looking great.

Here are some top fashion tips for women:

Choose quality

Believe it or not, but you don’t need six little black dresses. What you do need is one great LBD which you can wear to any occasion, dress up or down, and its classic style will last for years.

Often we get into the habit of buying many different cheap pieces, since we like to have variety and they’re often on sale, but we forget that these fabrics generally won’t last all that long and will soon be faded, stretched, and worn out. Whenever possible, choose quality for your basics- every woman should own one great pair of black or nude heels, a good coat, a little black dress, a cashmere sweater, a pair of excellent jeans, and a go-anywhere handbag. These are the things you should spend a little more money on since they’re made to last for years and will be wardrobe staples.

Get creative

Once you have the wardrobe basics sorted, you can move on to the fun stuff. Look for material and designs that flatter your shape, and don’t be afraid to go bold here- a print dress makes a great statement during summer and you can easily throw it on for a variety of occasions.

For pieces that aren’t staples but which you’re planning to get plenty of wear out of anyway, avoid the cheaper stores and find something that’s made of quality fabric so it will last. That doesn’t mean you need to spend hundreds on one dress, and you can definitely find well-priced, quality clothes at an affordable price point.

Accessorise

Accessories make an outfit, and if you’re not used to accessorising, this is a good option to show your personality. While you should try to stick to classic, staple pieces for many of your clothes, accessories are a great way to stay on-trend every year and dress an outfit up or down. A great belt, bag, pair of shoes, necklace or set of earrings can make an outfit, but just be careful not to go overboard here- choose between dangly earrings and a necklace, and if in doubt, remove one piece of jewellery before you leave the house.

A nice handbag or purse is an excellent way to accessorise, as you’ll get years of wear out of it and can completely change your outfit and style based on the choices you make.
